Virginia Adell Crozier, 97, longtime rural Adair resident, passed away May 22, 2026, at Cass Health in Atlantic. Virginia loved farm life and remained on the farm she cherished until her passing.
She was born on February 28, 1929, in Brayton, Iowa, to Nels Christian Nelsen and Katherine Christina (Jensen) Nelsen. Her parents had immigrated to the United States from Denmark. Virginia graduated from Exira High School in 1947 and went on to teach country school near Exira. On December 29, 1948, she married Ralph Crozier at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita. They were blessed with nine children: Gregory, Norman, Colleen, Thomas, Barbara, Roberta, Galen, Carol Kay, and Ronald. Ralph and Virginia shared 61 years of marriage together before Ralph’s passing in 2010.
Her love of learning continued throughout her life. While her children were in school, Virginia furthered her education by taking televised college courses on Channel 11 through Iowa State University and excelled in all of her classes.
Virginia’s greatest love was her family, followed closely by life on the farm working alongside them. She always maintained a large garden and took great joy in canning food for her family. Her home was centered around hard work, family gatherings, and caring for those she loved.

She is survived by her children: Norman Crozier of Council Bluffs; Thomas Crozier of Adair, friend Kim Schramm; Barbara Pilcher of Ankeny; Roberta Schrader of Tigard, Oregon; Galen (Mary) Crozier of Corning; and Ronald (Amy Warner) Crozier of Ankeny; daughter-in-law, Raymona Crozier of Persia; and son-in-law, Dennis Hoffman of Omaha.
