Saran Robinson

Saran Jane Robinson, 75, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday September 18, 2026, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

Saran was born on January 12,1951, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Richard Lee and Nellie Beatrice (Scannell) Voss. She grew up in Atlantic and attended Atlantic Community School and graduated in 1969. She then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and then Iowa State University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Although they both attended school together and knew each other since grade school, it wasn’t until later in high school Scott and Saran started to date. While dating Saran transferred to Iowa State University where Scott later proposed. They were united in marriage on September 3, 1971, in Atlantic, Iowa.

After college, Saran and Scott lived in various locations stateside and overseas while Scott was in the Air Force. The couple moved back to Atlantic in the late 1970s, Saran owned her own crafting business for many years while teaching local cooking classes and working at David’s Home and Garden Center which allowed her to showcase her deep love of gardening and connecting with the community. Saran also served at a substitute teacher in the Atlantic Community School District where she was able to share her passion for life and learning with the students.

Saran had a creative soul with her love of the arts. She loved water coloring, painting, landmark pictures, calligraphy, gardening, and cooking for her family. As a Master Gardener, she had a colorful flower garden full of her favorite colors and flowers. She also had a large vegetable garden that always produced a bountiful harvest to feed her family and friends. She could also be found shopping at any gardening center she could find, antique shops, boutiques and restaurants.

Saran’s life was full of discovery and adventure. She shared this with her four sons and grandchildren by teaching them how to garden, knit, cook and sew and often took them along on her shopping excursions. Saran was always somewhere creating beauty to be shared with those she loved most.

Saran also had a deep passion for traveling. Her second semester at Coe College was spent traveling in the travel aboard program aboard the World Campus Afloat. In this yearlong adventure she was able to see and travel to many countries, Japan being one of her favorites. She also spent time living abroad as a military wife and continued her love of traveling with Scott making trips to see their children, grandchildren and close friends. Saran cherished time with her family and would plan large family vacations together so they could spend and have quality time with one another.

Saran was active giving her time in several organizations in her community. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she was active in bible study, Sunday school, Tugboats and Midshipmen fellowship groups. She also helped organize RAGBRAI dinners, taught cooking and quilting classes and even led 4H clubs her sons were part of. She was an active member of the P.E.O. chapter AF, Neighborhood Friendly Club, Birthday Club and Master Gardeners.

Saran is survived by her husband, Scott Robinson; her children, Chris (Kirsten) Robinson of Phoenix, Arizona, Ryan (Dina) Robinson of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Tyson (Kristina) Robinson of Fountain Hills, Arizona, and Barry (Mary) Robinson of Atlantic, Iowa; her wonderful grandchildren, Tatum, Gianna, Massimo, Ethan, Eloise, Chiara, Aurora, Arianna, and Joseph. She is also survived by her sister, Marynelle Greene (Ned Sharp) of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Carl (Susan) Voss of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law Connie Voss of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Nellie Voss and her brother, Richard Voss.

Visitation with the family present will be held 4:00 – 6:00 PM, Sunday, September 27th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday September 28th at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic.

Burial will be held immediately following the service in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
