Listen to Obituary

Norma Liddell, 89 years, 9 months and 12 days, of Grant and Noble Township, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa.

Norma Glee, the daughter of Shelby H. and Maxine “Nellie” (Hamlin) England, was born on August 16, 1936, on the family farm southwest of Griswold in the Kemling neighborhood.

Norma attended Rose Hill Country School located on Pioneer Trail in Pottawattamie County until reaching the 7th grade. She then was transferred to Griswold and graduated with the Class of 1954. Norma worked at the old Red Oak Hospital as a CNA for a short period before her marriage to Duane E. Liddell on May 27, 1954, at the Noble Center Methodist Church, near Lyman. While Duane served in the United States Navy, stationed in Oakland, California, Norma joined him. He served his country for four years and after his honorable discharge they returned to Iowa to work on the family farm and later started a venture of their own.

Norma treasured the many simple things in her life, but one thing that was truly a passion was gardening and flowers. It was an obsession to be surrounded by flowers and the ability to grow the biggest melons in Southwest Iowa. She loved the challenge and it was a joke between family members about whether or not Miracle Grow was permissible. Norma enjoyed cooking and canning, and was known for her delicious pies and cakes. In later years, she was always found in the kitchen preparing wonderful desserts for whoever might walk through her front door. Norma was an excellent house keeper; taking great pride in the fact it was very seldom things were found out of their place.

She is survived by her children, Eldon & Anita Liddell of Corning, Cynthia & Bill Swain of Lyman, Linda & Galen Kreps of Bedford, and Stephanie & Chris Witzman of Atlantic; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother, Max England.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents, Shelby & Maxine England; sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Boyd) Dolch; sister-in-law, Sherry England; and many extended family.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4th at Roland Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Dan Wiebesiek from the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic will officiate.

Burial will be held at a later date at Noble Center Cemetery, south of Lyman.
