Lois Ihnken, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, at Cass Health in Atlantic.
Lois Marie, the daughter of Roy Adam and Martha Wilhelmina (Heckman) Walker was born at home in Guthrie County, Iowa, on March 23, 1934. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, northwest of Adair, Iowa. Lois attended Grant Country School #’s 3 and 4 and graduated from Adair High School in 1952.
On April 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Ihnken at St. John’s Lutheran Church, northwest of Adair. Following their marriage, they moved to Wiota where they lived until 1963, at which time they moved to Atlantic. In retirement, Kenny and Lois looked forward to spending winters in Arizona and kept active while soaking in warm weather walking, hiking and biking.
Lois worked at Walnut Grove and retired from Deputy in the Cass County Recorder’s office after 19 years. She also waitressed at the Pine’s for many years.
Lois volunteered at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in Grace Circle. She enjoyed walking, going to water aerobics, reading and spending time with her family and friends. Lois cherished time she spent with her grandchildren. One of their favorite activities while together was baking bread.
Lois is survived by her sons, Scott (LuAnn) Ihnken and Brian Ihnken; two grandchildren, Adam and Jill (Josh); great-grandchildren, Tashayla, Arthur, Eleanor, Eivin, and Lanie; and sisters, Ruth Walker and Jean Smith.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Martha Walker; husband, Kenneth Ihnken; grandson, Aaron Ihnken; sister, Karen Smith; and brothers-in-law, Ramon Smith and Charles Smith.
Visitation with the family present will begin at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 31st at Zion Lutheran Church followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. The family invites you to join them immediately following the service for lunch and fellowship.
The service will be recorded and available on the funeral home website by end of day Saturday.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Atlantic Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation to local causes.
