Joan Marie "Joanie" Rourick, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by love Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and her Mom. She was born on March 8, 1956, to Verdella Rourick.

Joanie was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unconditional love. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures—a glass of tea, a cup of ice, and, most importantly, spending time with those she loved. Her warm smile, easygoing nature, and genuine appreciation for every visit and phone call left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

For the past three years, Joanie was a resident of Atlantic Specialty Care, where she received exceptional care and compassion. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for the kindness, dignity, and support they provided throughout her time there.

Joanie is lovingly remembered by her guardian, Stacy Van Aernam, and Stacy's family. She proudly embraced the role of "Grandma Joanie" to 11 cherished grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and purpose to her life. Though not related by blood, the bond they shared was one of unwavering love and family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Verdella Rourick. Her loved ones find comfort in believing she has been joyfully reunited with her mother.

A Celebration of Life, hosted by the those that loved her, will be held from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, in the Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Iowa.
