Jack Knight

Jack Knight, 84, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, August 24, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family.

The son of Cassie and Addie Lillian (Dill) Knight, Jackie Lee Knight was born May 12, 1942, in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up loving horses and had a number of them that he rode with his friends, Gary and Warren during his growing up years. He met Violet Anderson when he was twelve years old and she was eleven and six years later they married on August 14, 1960. What a team they became, celebrating over 66 years of marriage! When he was about sixteen, he began construction and asphalt work, as well as helping his dad with their fur business. Due to vision issues that started at age nine, Jack retired in 1966 from working but that did not really stop him! They raised their three children with many wonderful trips camping at Black Hawk Lake, carrying on Violet’s wonderful childhood memories into the next several generations.

Jack became deeply immersed in the world of CB Radios and was a member of the Nishna Valley CB Club, his handle being “Blind Robin.” A scanner was always in the background at home, keeping Jack and Vi in the middle of the community’s happenings from their cozy kitchen. Together, the couple enjoyed old country music from the greats and Jack’s personal favorites being Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Webb Pierce, Ernest Tubb, Red Foley, Ricky Van Shelton and Willy’s Roadhouse. Strong minded could be an apt descriptor of this guy and he could argue to the last point but he was a faithful friend and loved his people to the very end.

Jack is survived by his wife, Violet (Anderson) Knight of Atlantic; son, Kelly (Marlo) Knight; son-in-law, Paul Brown; daughter-in-law, Chanda Knight; six grandchildren, Aaron Brown, Shelly Brown, Ryan Brown, Dan Knight, Cheryle Knight and Jeff Knight and their families; nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Duane (Jane) Anderson.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Brenda Brown; son, Norman Knight; grandson, KJ Knight; an older brother in infancy, Cassie Knight, Jr.; four half-brothers, Luther Wells, Dallas Wells, Lucius Wells, and Harry “Deke” Wells; two half-sisters, Norma Wells and Mary Wells; father- and mother-in-law, Ray and Iva Anderson; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wells, Vera Garcia, Pauline Nielsen, and Marcella Gochanour; and brother-in-law, Dennis Anderson.

A Visitation with family present will be Friday, August 28th from 10:00 a.m. to the start of funeral services at 11:00 at United Church of Christ in Atlantic. Burial will take place at the Atlantic Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Pastor Heather Santi-Brown, of United Church of Christ, is presiding over services. A luncheon will follow the burial and will be held at the United Church of Christ.
