Gerald Brink, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, went to be with our Lord, Monday, April 20, 2026, at Allen Place in Atlantic.
Gerald Allen was born June 16, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, to John Earl and Vivian Lorraine (Miller) Brink. He grew up in Atlantic, attending Lincoln Elementary School and graduating from Atlantic High School in 1961. As a child, he carried newspapers and at age fourteen started with the family floral business. He worked both in retail sales and as a designer for 59 years, eventually becoming owner and manager of Brink Flower and Gift Co. They were well known for their quality work, honesty and held the respect of the entire area. He was united in marriage to Joan Lee Frank on January 19, 1963 in Atlantic.
As a businessman, he was especially known for his interest in preserving his community as a great place to live; ever intensely aware and proactive for the health of his hometown. He served 9 years on the Atlantic City Council, Atlantic Cemetery Board, Atlantic Chamber of Commerce (president), RAGBRAI Chairman and Coordinator two separate years, Image Builders, Atlantic Ambassadors and CADCO. With all his involvements, he made time for reading and morning conversation with the men at Family Table, most recently, and other groups over the years. People often came to him, asking for his opinion and/or advice on all kinds of topics.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather! Many memories were made on Iowa road trips with Joani; they truly enjoyed spending time together! The family recall their two-week adventures to Zumwinkle Cabins at Allen's Park, in the mountains near Estes Park, Colorado. Joani remembers with a chuckle, how he washed his vehicle three times a week, or more, whether it needed it or not. She had known, though, what she was getting into as far as his fascination with automobiles and "need for speed"; cars were his other passion! Christmas was his favorite holiday and the locals can likely still picture the lovely displays he had at their shop on 7th Street. He had a soft spot in his heart for their dog, Chase, red roses and the taste of a great Iowa-raised New York Strip steak.
Gerald will be deeply missed by his wife of 63 years, Joani Brink; their son, Scott A. Brink of Wyoming; granddaughter, Shae Brink and her mother, Barb Andrews of Colorado; brother, Paul (Sherri) Brink of Atlantic; sister, Jo (Glynn) Westphalen of Atlantic; godson, Brent Cambridge; and other extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Vivian Brink; sister, Janet Marsh and her husband, Jon and their infant son, J.J.; and his parents-in-law, Elberta and Dan Frank.
Open visitation, with no family present, will begin at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 26th followed by visitation with the family present from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 27th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
