Dwight Stowe, age 73, of Council Bluffs and formerly of Cass County, passed away Wednesday, May 20th, peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
His parents Esther Stowe (McCrory) and Charles Stowe were long-time residents of Atlantic. Dwight grew up with a spirit of adventure and a deep appreciation for autonomy that shaped his life. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and the National Guard for many years after. He also participated as a volunteer fire fighter during his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved sister Kathleen Scarf (Stowe) and sister Jeannie Hernandez. He is survived by his brother-in-law David Scarf, sister Amy, sister-in-law Ellen Batten, daughter Jill Cooney and grandchildren, Mairin and Mary Cooney, and daughter Jessica Stowe-Salvo (Tony), and grandchildren Phoenix and Griffin Ranney. He’s also survived by many nieces and nephews who remember their uncle as a caring and warm man. Dwight’s family was important to him, and he took great pride in their achievements and happiness.
Dwight’s life was defined by resilience, humor, and an insatiable curiosity. He pursued adventure wherever it led him, whether parachute jumping, participating in search and rescue, rappelling, or cross-country skiing. His dedication to living life fully was inspirational. Dwight’s legacy lives on in his family and in the countless stories of humor and laughter he shared.
