Listen to Obituary

Dennis Brix, 86, of Walnut, Iowa, went to be home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Eden Acres Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa.

Dennis Gene Brix was born on January 26, 1940, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, to Ralph Frederick and Alta Henrietta (Voss) Brix. He was a farm kid who grew up and lived nearly his entire life in Walnut, with the exception of a stint at Fort Ord, California, where he completed basic training when he was enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. Dennis graduated from Walnut Public School, receiving his diploma on May 23, 1958. Dennis completed a 6-year enlistment in the Iowa Army National Guard and was honorably discharged January 17, 1968. On December 6th, 1969, he was united in marriage to Linda Lou Sievers.

Dennis and Linda worked a 160-acre farm south of Walnut for many years, where they raised livestock, corn, beans, large garden plots, and their three sons, Sean, Shane, and Derek. Both Dennis and Linda worked hard over the years to earn a living through both on-farm and off-farm jobs. Notably, Dennis worked at the Walnut Fertilizer plant for a while, doing whatever needed done. From shop work and mechanic duties to driving trucks and sprayers, he was willing to help wherever he was needed. He told a few stories about driving the large 3-wheeled floater sprayers on steep hills in fields around Walnut and nearly rolling the entire contraption down the hill on more than one occasion.

Dennis enjoyed fishing and hunting; especially, walleye and northern fishing in Canada and whitetail deer and pheasant hunting here in Iowa. Dennis went on many fishing trips to Canada with his buddies over the years. When his boys were young, the family often took week-long, summer vacation trips to Minnesota where they would find a cabin and lake to spend time exploring, fishing, and relaxing. One simple thing Dennis partook of daily, was a cup of coffee. He liked it black and it did not matter the time of day.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Ralph; his mother, Alta; brother, Darrellyn; and brother, Dallas.

Dennis is survived by sister, Nerita (Robert) Sorensen of Walnut; his ex-wife, Linda (Richard d.) Weaver of Atlantic; sons, Sean Brix of Perry; Shane (Karen) Brix of Grimes; Derek (Lisa) Brix of Ames; and 3 granddaughters, Anna, Emma (Shane & Karen) and Mackenzie (Derek & Lisa).

Dennis’ lasting legacy to his family, particularly to his sons, is his Christian testimony spoken to the Lord in the presence of Sean August 24, 2024, at Eden Acres in Perry, Iowa. This testimony is located below this obituary. Dennis’ wish that others might speak these words with a sincere heart and have their hearts softened for Jesus.

Visitation with the family present will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 27th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor Randy Abell of the Heartland Baptist Church in Ames officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Atlantic Color Guard.

Roland Funeral Service is caring for Dennis’ family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for all you have given me.

All I have that is good is from You.

Thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ

to die on the cross for my sins.

I admit I’m a Sinner and ask that you

please forgive me for all my sins. I trust you.

I love you. I want to obey You and submit to You.

I believe in You. Please come into my heart

and save me. You are my Lord and King.

In Jesus’ name I pray.
