LOTTIE EAGAN

Lottie Eagan, 102, long resident of Marne, Iowa, passed away on March 10, 2008 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa.

Velma Charlotte “Lottie” Eagan was born July 7, 1905 to Benjamin and May Jones Flathers in Woodbury County, Iowa. She was married to Elmer Eagan on October 19, 1924. As she recalled, they were the first couple to be wedded in the present United Methodist Church in Atlantic. They moved to Marne where she was a homemaker and Elmer worked as a mechanic and served as fire chief. He died on February 10, 1972. She lived in her home until she entered the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.

Lottie enjoyed crocheting, flowers, gardening and quilting. She was famous for her lemon pies and Swiss rolls. Her family will remember her loving kindness. With a chuckle they say, “She’d take any stray kid in and it was fun for the children in the family to spend time with her.” She would teach them to crochet and to help her with the canning. They will treasure their memories of Lottie.

She is survived by one sister Berneice Jensen of Adair. nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; six sisters, Lilah Morris, Edna Harland, Lucille Struble, Iva Anderson, Stella Kendall and Esther (in infancy); and four brothers, Clarence, Gilbert, Leonard and Harley.
