HAROLD BELL HENDERSON
Harold Bell Henderson, age 91, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away at home on Tuesday, April 15, 2008.
Harold Henderson, eldest son of Edwin Clay and Lelah Margaret (Bell) Henderson, was born on November 19, 1916 in Wiota, Iowa.
He grew up on the family farm in the Franklin Township area and graduated from Wiota High School in 1935. He attended Iowa State University. On August 19, 1941, he married Elsie Spencer in Cumberland, Iowa. Harold and Elsie lived and farmed in Franklin Township until he retired. They were married for 42 years. Following Elsie’s death in 1985, Harold moved to Atlantic, Iowa. He later married Wilma (Janss) Hayes.
Harold was a prominent dairy farmer for over 30 years and served as President of the Cass County Dairy Association, the Cass County Farm Bureau, Wiota School Board, Turkey Creek Watershed, the Anita Lions Club and Iowa Hereford Hog Association. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and Voyagers. He was a pioneer in growing Hybrid Seed Corn and participated in the 2002 Great Iowa Tractor Ride with his Oliver 1655 tractor. He also helped deliver Meals on Wheels and volunteered as a driver for the Road to Recovery.
He is survived by his wife Wilma; his son Howard (Marcella) Henderson of West Des Moines, IA, his daughter Janet (Robert) Fulwider of West Liberty, IA, his son Allan (Bonnie) Henderson of Brandon, VT, his son Roland Henderson of Wiota, IA and his daughter Margaret Henderson of Wiota, IA. His step children include Cliff (Meredith) Hayes of Omaha, NE, Claude (Harriett) Hayes of Corning, Bob (Sandy) Hayes of Muscatine, IA and Tom (Kathy) Hayes of Atlantic, IA. Six grandchildren survive: Michael (Elizabeth) Henderson of Cambridge, IA, Tara (Mike) Essmann of West Des Moines, IA, Angela Henderson (Shawn Karaidos) of Des Moines, IA, C. Daniel Fulwider of Windsor Heights, IA, Dustin (Sharon Norton) of Rutland, VT and Amber (Joshua) Stackhouse of Westbrook, ME. Six great grandchildren also survive: Paige, Carli and Brock Henderson, Hunter Essmann, Luke Karaidos and Lucas Henderson.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elsie and his brother Carl Henderson.

Funeral Information

Services for Harold will be held on Friday, April 18, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Donald Seeger and Dick Hohl officiating. A visitation with the family will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Roland Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Atlantic
Cemetery.
