LESTER E. CLEMSEN
Lester Clemsen, age 92, long time resident of Atlantic, passed away on Monday evening, April 21, 2008 at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Lester was born the son of Nels P. and Nena (Esbeck) Clemsen of Audubon, Iowa on March 4, 1916. Lester was educated in the Elkhorn School District . On April 3, 1938, Lester was united in marriage to Dearie Marie Wheatley in her home in rural Atlantic.
Lester was a carpenter by trade and owned and operated the Lester E. Clemsen Contracting and Building business. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. Lester was a member of the Elks Club in Atlantic, the City Council and the First United Presbyterian Church. Lester had been a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at one time and served on the board for many years. He enjoyed his coffee at the Farmer’s Kitchen and also the “Supper Club”.
He is survived by a son, Dallas Clemsen and his wife, Wilma of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren, Tim Clemsen and wife, Sara of Davenport, IA, Mike Clemsen and wife, Mindy of Papillion, NE, Stephanie Melby and husband, Adam of Treynor, IA; daughter, Deb Sorum and husband, Dave of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Kali Sorum of Lincoln, NE, Greg and Lukas Sorum of St. Cloud, MN; great-grandchildren, Rowan and Sydnie Melby of Treynor, IA.
Lester is preceded in death by his wife Dearie; his parents; siblings, Arthur Clemsen, Henry Clemsen, Anna Hansen, Mable Knudsen; Ethel Hoegh, Christina Nelsen, Beulah Davis and Sylvia Foster.
Funeral Information
Services for Lester will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic on Friday, April 25, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Don Seeger officiating. An open visitation will be held at the Roland Funeral Home with a visitation with the family Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00. Interment will be in the Brighton Township Cemetery at Marne. The family requests memorials be designated to the First United Presbyterian Church or Macular Degeneration Foundation.
